Pilates
Osteopathy and Pilates complement each other in that they are both holistic in their approach to improving body bio-mechanics. If a person is in pain, Osteopathic treatment will alleviate that pain and inflammation and improve the range of movement of joints and flexibility of muscles so that optimum function is restored, with particular focus on any obvious restrictions that are the primary source of pain. Focused Pilates exercises may be prescribed during the Osteopathic treatment phase to facilitate the process of regaining a balance in the body and to start to undo any negative movement patterns or postures that may be present. Further, specific Pilates exercises for the now, pain free individual, will re-enforce positive movement patterns and aim to maintain optimum function, thereby preventing further injury.

Bodyworks Osteopathy of York offers APPI Pilates in a class setting and/or on an individual basis 1-2-1 session. The APPI system of Pilates is evidence based and employs a clinical approach to exercise prescription. Our APPI qualified instructor, Terri, has completed APPI Pilates Matwork Levels 1, 2 and 3 and has attended further study courses in the following: Pilates for Runners, Pilates for Osteoporosis, Pilates for Neuro-rehab and Ante/Post-natal Pilates.
